Size guides and fit information that help shoppers choose

People cannot try clothes on in an online store. If they are unsure about size, they either leave or order two sizes and send one back. Good fit information on the product page helps with both.

What a useful size guide includes

  • Real measurements. Give chest, waist, hip or length in centimetres and inches, not just S, M and L. Explain how to measure.
  • Garment measurements. Body measurements and garment measurements are different. Say which one you are showing.
  • Model details. State the model’s height and the size they are wearing.
  • Fit notes. Say whether the item runs small, large or true to size, and whether it is slim, regular or relaxed.
  • Fabric information. Stretch, weight and care instructions affect how a size feels.

Where to put it

Place a clear “Size guide” link right next to the size selector, not buried in a tab further down. Open it in a pop-up or panel so the shopper does not lose their place on the product page.

Make it work on a phone

Most fashion traffic is on mobile. Tables should scroll sideways without breaking the layout, and text should be large enough to read without zooming.

Show stock by size

Mark sizes that are sold out, and offer a back-in-stock alert. It saves the shopper time and gives you a list of people who want the product.

Make returns easy to understand

A short, clear returns and exchange note near the add-to-cart button reduces hesitation. If exchanges are free, say so.

These are some of the features I build for fashion stores. See the store features page, or tell me what your store needs.
